Oneida County Office for the Aging & Continuing Care Hosts Picnic, Health, Wellness and Informational Fair on June 24th

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. announced today that the Oneida County Office for the Aging/Continuing Care Senior Nutrition and Health Promotion Programs will be holding a Summer Picnic, Health, Wellness and Information Fair on June 24, 2010. The event will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Roselawn Banquet House, 446 Main Street, New York Mills.
“Oneida County government has developed some outstanding partnerships with community agencies and also offers a wide range of programs and services aimed at our older citizens,” Picente said. “This annual picnic and Information Fair is an informal way to learn about what exists, meet the staff of our department and local agencies, and meet other people who have left their first career behind them and are looking for new challenges and opportunities, and also facing new needs.”
Michael J. Romano, Director of Office for the Aging/Continuing Care said “many senior oriented agencies will be in attendance thought out the day”. Agencies included in the line up are home care organizations, senior counseling services, caregiver support services.” There will also be information and assistance available regarding transportation, senior prescription coverage, food stamps, memory care, mental health, massage and chiropractic care. For those who are interested in obtaining information about volunteer services, senior health insurance, nutrition counseling, health care monitoring, housing options, senior advocacy will be able to talk with professionals and experts throughout the day.
Everyone is asked to bring in a non – perishable food item with them. All food collected will be donated to a local food pantry.
Arthritis Specialist Dr. Martin Morell will be the guest speaker.
A Chicken BBQ is also available at a suggested donation of $2.00 for anyone 60 years or older OR $6.00 for anyone under 60 years old. All proceeds will go to the Oneida County Office for the Aging Senior Nutrition Program.
