What is the Veterans Directed Home and Community Based Services Program (VDHCBS)?
The Veterans Directed Home and Community Based Services Program (VDHCBS) is a program for veterans of all ages who need care or services to help them live at home. Consumer Directed Care (sometimes called Self-Directed Care) is a big part of this program. Consumer Directed Care means that the veteran who needs personal care (e.g., help with dressing, toileting, bathing, etc.) and other services decides what assistance they need to live independently. They also have a role in deciding who provides the personal care (homemaker/home health aide) services to them. VDHCBS is designed to enable veterans to have more choice and control over the care and services they receive.
