Gardening
Summary: Youth volunteers volunteered their time and worked hand in hand with elders from Mt. Carmel Church creating a garden space. They planted vegetables and tended to the garden to help provide the elders/residents with fresh vegetables for the summer and fall months. The youth volunteers made sauce and meatballs and put on a spaghetti dinner for the parishioners of the church. They also baked brownies, brought ice cream and with the elders, they created and enjoyed ice cream sundaes.
Ice Cream Social
Bi-weekly throughout the year, youth volunteers work with the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children folding flyers and stuffing them in envelopes for mailing.
Throughout the year youth volunteers spend time with residents of the Arc making arts and crafts.
The youth volunteers participated in a city-wide community clean-up. They continually clean streets and properties throughout the Neighborhood Center community, making these sites cleaner, safer and nicer.
During the holiday season the youth volunteers assist Operation Sunshine with their annual holiday event. They help with toy set up, wrap presents, organize food baskets and clean up afterward.
Collections were held throughout the year by the youth volunteers to benefit the Stevens Swan Humane Society. This year they held an Easter basket raffle to help raise money for Stevens Swan’s telethon. This year they raised over $300.
Leading up to America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk, the youth volunteers solicited pledges, raised money and walked in the Heart Run and Walk in March.
The staff of The Neighborhood Center and their youth volunteers always gives of their time volunteering throughout the year. The youth volunteers constantly express their enjoyment volunteering, making other people smile and making their community a better place to live.
