Agencies We Fund
The Oneida County Youth Bureau serves as the funding arm of 47 different agencies and municipalities that receive state funds through the Office of Children and Family Services to provide valuable programs and services to youth. We serve as a conduit to the community to meet area needs in a cost-effective, pro-active way.
The funds we allocate are divided into three categories:
SDPP (Special Delinquency Prevention Programs)
YDPP (Youth Development Delinquency Prevention Programs)
RHYA (Runaway and Homeless Youth Act Funded Programs)
Special Delinquency Prevention Programs
Also known as SDPP. This funding is provided to non-profits to serve a targeted youth population with the goal of preventing Juvenile Delinquency.
Compeer

Compeer for Kids – This program offers recruitment and training of volunteers for mentoring friendships with children receiving mental health treatment.

Family Services of the Mohawk Valley

Teen Aggression Reduction – A ten week series of group sessions to build aggression reduction skills in teens; parents are engaged in individual orientation as a group starts and a debriefing session at the end of the series; serves youth/ families in western
Sexual Abuse Treatment Program – This program provides individual and family treatment of sexual abuse for those not eligible to participate through the Department of Social Services.
Juvenile Perpetrators – This program provides group and family treatment for youth implicated as perpetrators of sexual abuse.
Partners in Prevention – This program offers individual and family therapy from a family system approach to direct vulnerable youth towards completion of the Young Scholars program.

Oneida County Workforce Development

Probation Employment - This funding allocation is used exclusively for stipends to youth on probation who participate in meaningful private sector employment opportunities.
Jail To Community Transition – This program supports coordination to transition youth, who complete sentences at Oneida County Jail, into job training programs or unsubsidized employment.

YWCA

YGIRLS: Open to girls throughout the county who reside in economically disadvantaged families to promote leadership development & learning onfidence towards hopes and dreams, jobs and careers.
Adolescent Outreach: This program provides awareness and prevention education information about sexual assault and domestic/dating violence; reaches youth from pre-school to college to developmentally challenged.
New Horizons Life Skills Program: This program offers life skills instruction for residents to assist them in making a successful transition to independent living.
Sexual Violence Services: This program offers rape crisis and domestic violence services for victims and secondary victims. It includes a hotline as well as accompaniment and advocacy with hospitals , law enforcement and courts.
Self Esteem/Life Skills: This program offers basic life skills training (cooking , budgeting , household management) and a focus on developing communication and relationship skills for both residents at New Horizons and youth from the community-at-large.
Sheltered Youth Project: This program offers a variety of services that a family may need after departure from Hall House Domestic Violence shelter. Those services include: crisis and short term counseling , age appropriate recreational activities; return to school of origin or re-enrollment in a new school , as well as follow-up and referrals.

This funding is also known as YDPP. It offers 50% funding to municipalities and non-profits for Youth Service, Initiative and Recreation programs.

Johnson Park Center
Children’s Center – This program provides a safe, drop-in place with after-school and summer recreation for children in the Cornhill area. Many are from single parent, low income families.

Service
American Red Cross, Utica Chapter
Health and Safety – This program provides health and safety prevention education for children/youth in the Utica Chapter jurisdiction that covers fifteen school districts. Issues like fire and burn prevention, home alone safety tips, choking and babysitting training are all addressed.

Combines formal education with traditional camp activities to foster an increased sense of character, long term goal setting and increased comfort level in talking with parents/guardians about risky behavior.

Be Smart.. Don’t Start – This collaboration with Faxton-St.Luke’s Healthcare provides tobacco prevention education to youth in grades K-6. It deals with social, physical and peer implications.
Better Your Own Body – This is a youth development program that recruits, trains and hires high school and college students to facilitate group discussions with K-6th graders regarding the social, nutritional, physical and drunk driving implications of alcohol.
4-H Outreach – This youth development programming utilizes Intergenerational Master Gardener, 4-H Government Interns and Conservation Education Days to provide young people with role models and meaningful participation in community awareness and problem solving opportunities.

SAFE SCHOOLS/THE UNDERGROUND CAFE
Utica Safe Schools provides quality programs and services to students in the cities of Rome and Utica. The Underground Café provides a venue of support for students ages 13-18 from John F Kennedy and Donovan Middle school, as well as students from Proctor High School. Runaway and Homeless Youth Act (RHYA) funded programs
Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency

Runaway & Homeless Youth Program – This program provides crisis mediation for youth and families. It also offers crisis (short-term) shelter with OCFS certified Volunteer Interim Families as well as referrals and advocacy with the goal of reuniting families.
Teen Recreation Center: This program offers constructive leisure time activities 6 to 8PM , M-F and some Saturdays for high risk, inner city youth, mainly from minority families involved with the human service system.
