Important Information for As you know, the rainfall and
subsequent flooding of the past two days have created significant public
health conditions that need to be addressed to ensure people are aware
of the hazards they may face as efforts are made to restore their lives. Attached are copies of a variety of materials regarding safe recovery following floods. These materials were obtained from a variety of sources including but not limited to the New York State Department of Health, the New York State Emergency Management Office, the Centers for Disease Control, United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The materials should be reviewed
to make you aware of generally accepted procedures to ensure provisions
for safe food and drinking water, managing contaminated materials such
as wet items in the home, and cleanup methods for mold and other issues. Although this information does not
comprise the entirety of available materials regarding flood cleanup
response, it serves as a place to start in the seemingly overwhelming
task ahead. Please pay close attention to the
materials provided for safe drinking water, septic systems, mold and
indoor air quality, and special hazards (e.g. electrical).
The Oneida County Health Department recommends that licensed or
certified professionals be consulted regarding fuel, electrical systems,
wells and septic systems. If you have any questions, you can
