Picente Announces Exciting New Youth Activity

Oneida County Youth Bureau Hosts June 16 Informational Meeting
Regarding Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Education Center

           

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr., today announced a new addition to Oneida County ’s range of high-quality summer programming for youth as local communities and agencies gathered for an information session to highlight to exciting opportunities being offered at the Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Educational Center .

“The outdoors is an integral part of the Oneida County lifestyle, and we want to encourage our youth to get a first-hand knowledge of the outdoors,” Picente said. “Whether we are talking about the great joys of outdoor recreational opportunities in our region, or the broader issues of environmental awareness the first step is to help our young people establish a closer connection with the outdoors. the Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Educational Center   offers young people an exceptional opportunity, and we appreciate the fact that they are working with the Oneida County Youth Bureau to reach out to local youth.”

Oneida County Youth Bureau Director Robert J. Roth  said Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Educational Center, Inc. is  a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing environmental education and outdoor fitness activities to elementary and middle school children in the Oneida County area. The Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Educational Center is developing an extensive curriculum, and for the summer will be providing youth with opportunities for mountain biking and tours of farm animals as a way of introducing the center to the youth of the region.

Programs are offered at no charge. Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Educational Center, Inc will pay all costs --- including transportation.

Located in northern Oneida County near Boonville, the Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Educational Center is home to many species of farm animals including alpaca, donkeys, goats, guinea hens, horses, sheep and cattle. The property has beautiful interior trails, open fields, and a beautiful Adirondack style gazebo overlooking the picturesque Adirondack Mountains and the Tug Hill Plateau.

            “Potato Hill Farm Outdoor Educational Center has great potential to be a major center for outdoor activities to help kids who have never really interacted with the outdoors learn what the rest of us know – outdoor activities are one of the great reasons to live in Oneida County,” said Roth, who urged any community agency that did not attend the session to contact the Youth Bureau at 798-5027.
