Upstate Cerebral Palsy

Agency:  Upstate Cerebral Palsy

Volunteer Project:  Intergenerational Spring and Fall Clean-Ups, Adaptive Horseback Riding

Summary:  On Sunday April 21, 2013 and on Saturday October 26, 2013 and Sunday October 27, 2013 youth volunteers from Upstate Cerebral Palsy’s Utica and Rome campuses volunteered their time and cleaned senior citizens yards. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves serving senior citizens who physically can’t do the work or financially afford to have the work done. The youth volunteers took pride in making their community cleaner and their efforts were invaluable in making the clean-ups so successful.

On an on-going and regular basis, youth volunteers volunteered in an adaptive horseback riding program at Reindance Stables in Sauquoit. The youth volunteers groomed horses before and after riding, assisted riders, cleaned stables/barn, acted as side walkers; guiding the horse when someone is riding the horse and prepared the horses for riding (tacking) and acted as assistants to the lead instructor.
