Internship Program Recognized by Genesis Group & CNY ATD

County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced today that the Oneida County College Corps Internship Program has been recognized by two organizations for the work it does to place local students on a successful career path.

The College Corps program has been named as a 2019 Outstanding Education Program by the Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley Region, and has been nominated by the Central New York Chapter of the Association for Talent Development for its 2019 CNY BEST Talent Development Award.

“For the past two decades, our College Corps program has paved the way to success for more than 4,000 local college students,” Picente said. “It has given them the opportunity to get hands-on experience with a variety of our community’s most successful and innovative employers, and provided many with the chance to stay here in Oneida County and make prosperous lives for themselves.”

The program has continued to steadily grow over the past three years, seeing the amount of participating interns and employers increase from 116 and 40 in 2017 to 170 and 40 in 2018 and to 190 and 47 this year. In 2019, students worked with employers in such fields of work as technology, engineering, business, law, marketing, education, health, finance and human services.

The college students interning in the program reside in 30 different county municipalities and attend more than 50 colleges throughout the country. They may work up to 200 hours and are paid by a 50/50 split between Oneida County and the employer.

“I am honored that our College Corps program is being recognized for our efforts,” said Oneida County Workforce Development Director David Mathis. “Together we are making our local employers and our local workforce better for generations to come.”

The Genesis Group will honor College Corps at its 14th Annual Celebration of Education on Nov. 21 at Hart’s Hill Inn, and the winners of the 12th Annual CNY BEST Awards will be determined on Nov. 7 in East Syracuse.

The 2020 Oneida County College Corps will begin accepting applications in January for internships to start in May. For more information contact Oneida County Workforce Development at 315-798-5908.
