Staff Development

Staff Development is responsible for the assessment, coordination and delivery of training to approximately 416 full time employees, who, through various job functions, administer the social service programs of this agency.  This office provides an Employee Orientation to all new employees. Staff Development coordinates state mandated and ongoing, comprehensive trainings for employees in Temporary Assistance, Services, Systems, Medicaid, Child Support, Business Accounting and Employment, to further their education and thus enhance their job performance.  This office provides Personal Computer training, on-line training coordination and support, small database development, troubleshooting and related technical support for all staff as needed.  Staff Development monitors and tracks training paths for Department of Social Services staff.  State sponsored webinars (web based trainings) are coordinated through this office.

Staff Development assists in researching and writing agency policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations, and provides training in regard to these policies as needed to support successful implementation into practice. 

The agency’s evaluation system, library, organizational chart, telephone directory, and training records are maintained by Staff Development.  Staff Development represents the agency on a several state committees such as the New York State Social Work Education Consortia, which is a group of counties partnering with New York State to provide tuition assistance for child welfare caseworker staff who are enrolled in a Masters in Social Work curriculum, and the Region III Staff Development coordinators meetings.

Staff development also helps area high school and college students in obtaining information about Social Services that pertains to their course of study.  This may include interviews and possible internships.  Additionally, requests by the community for employees to present at various speaking engagements, is coordinated through this office.
