Summary: The children/youth volunteers from The Neighborhood Center have become very connected to the community through their community service projects. The youth develop all of the community projects.
Youth volunteers volunteered their time to till, weed, plant and care for vegetables at the community garden at the Mt. Carmel Senior Center. The seniors love the fresh vegetables and the interaction with the youth brightens their days.
On a weekly basis throughout 2013, youth volunteers provided a number of services at Hope House and the Rescue Mission. They created lunch bags, organized silverware packets, set tables for meals and prepared and served meals.
Youth volunteers prepared food boxes for Operation Sunshine.
The youth volunteers raised funds for Evelyn’s House by holding popcorn sales.
Youth volunteers folded flyers and stuffed envelopes at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Youth volunteers regularly took part in East Utica clean-ups.
Youth volunteers also tutored and helped elementary and middle school students with their homework and took part in many recycling projects throughout the community.
The recipients that benefit from these community service projects are extremely grateful and the life lessons learned through the many volunteer projects have proved to be invaluable to the growth of our youth and the betterment of our community.
