Hoops and Dreams Project
Founder and Director Patrick Johnson of the Hoops and Dreams Project (2002-present) recently hosted a main event Basketball Tournament on July 17th-July19th at the Parkway Rec. Center. This tournament captured the 18 and over young men and women. The Hoops & Dreams Project is entering its 13th year, and this signature event as witnessed by Director of the Youth Bureau Kevin Green was positive, professional, and offered more than just basketball.
Johnson said, “We are deeply grateful to Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, and The Oneida County Youth Bureau for the very generous contribution in our efforts to make the city of Utica and Oneida County safe for everyone.”
Johnson went on to say, “The Hoops & Dreams Project addresses alternatives to violence, the value of education, teen pregnancy, drugs & alcohol, how to deal with conflict and so much more. We inspire the players and spectators that almost any dream is possible if you work hard, get an education, play by the rules, and have a good attitude.”
The Oneida County Youth Bureau is responsible for planning, coordinating and supplementing the activities of public, private and religious agencies devoted to, in whole or in part, the welfare and protection of youth.
