Volunteer Projects: Guardian Angels Team, Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up

Summary: “Guardian Angels Team”, is the name given to the Utica Municipal Housing Authority’s youth volunteers from their Teens and Dreams Program. The “Guardian Angels Team” takes part in many volunteer efforts throughout the year. They regularly check in on the senior citizen residents and residents who have special needs. The youth volunteers assist them with their daily chores; taking out their trash, cleaning their residences, running errands and most importantly, socializing with the seniors. The youth and the seniors thoroughly enjoyed spending time with one another and the youth took great pride in lending a hand.

This past October youth volunteers from the Utica Municipal Housing Authority participated in Oneida County’s 4th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up. The youth cleaned yards for senior citizens who physically couldn’t do the work or financially afford to have the work done. Again, the youth enjoyed helping the seniors and they also enjoyed socializing with them.
