9th Annual Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up a Success

650 youth volunteers served 110 senior citizen homes

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced today that the 9th Annual Oneida County Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up saw 650 youth volunteers serve 110 senior citizen homes.

The county initiative is a partnership between the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care and unites youth from area colleges, school districts and youth organizations with senior citizens in order to deliver general yard clean-up services.

“Our annual clean-ups deliver much-needed services to our Oneida County senior citizens who either can no longer physically do the work themselves, or due to a fixed income, can’t financially afford to have the work done for them,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “They also give our youth the opportunity to give back to the community in a productive and meaningful way.”

The fall clean-up took place on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22.

During the Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up this past April, 488 youth volunteers throughout the county raked and collected leaves, swept porches, sidewalks and driveways and brought light refuse to the curb at 96 senior citizen households.

The 10th Annual Intergenerational Spring and Fall Clean-Ups are scheduled for April 21-22, 2018 and Oct. 21-22, 2018 respectfully.
